Equifax Breach – September 2017

It’s been brought to our attention that Equifax, one of the largest credit reporting agencies, has been breached. Hackers have gained access to the personal information of over 140 million Americans according to the reports.

To check and see if your personal information has been impacted, you can visit https://www.equifaxsecurity2017.com.  This website will ask you a few simple questions and give you an answer as to the status of your credit in relation to this breach. You can also enroll in monitoring from this website.

If you are concerned about identity theft or someone gaining access to your credit report without your permission, you might consider placing a credit freeze on your report. This security freeze tool lets you restrict access to your credit report which makes it more difficult for identity thieves to open new accounts in your name. Details on how to accomplish this are at https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0497-credit-freeze-faqs#place

As always, it is highly recommended to monitor your credit card and bank accounts closely for any unauthorized activity.
